NEBRODIAN RELIGIOUS SITES

Itinerary No. 2 - One day excursions programme

After breakfast, we regain the Nebrodian Mountains into a spectacular dolomitic, lanscape making the first stop at Alcara Li Fusi, a small town leaning against the Rocca del Castro, a magnific dolomitic, calcareous face, red in colour, to see the Church of Santa Maria del Rosario and the Chiesa Madre. According to an old lagend, the hermit San Nicola, the patron saint of the town, lived here at the San Nicola Hermtage eating only the prey brought to him every day by an eagle.

Tavola di Alcara
Abbazia di Frazzanò

We then proceed to Frazzanò, a town founded around the year 835 by a coastline people who fled into the mountains to escape the Saracens.
After visiting the Church of the Annunziata and the Church of San Lorenzo, the patron saint of the town, we reach the splendid Abbey of St. Filippo di Fragalà, built by Roger I in the year 1090 on the remains of an old hermtage.

The tour continues, driving slowly trough towns and villages: Longi, Galati Mamertino, Tortorici, Castell'Umberto where we enjoy a typical local lunch.
After lunch we visit the medieval town of Naso: the baroque Chiesa Matrice, the Church of SS. Salvatore, the Church of San Cono, the patron saint of the town, and the Church of Santa Maria di Gesù (1400).

Festa popolare a Tortorici
Collina di Capo d'Orlando

The tour ends at Capo d'Orlando, a summer holiday resort on the Tyrrhenian coast with its 16th century Sanctuary of Maria Santissima on the promontory, nearby the 14th century ruined castle.
Capo d'Orlando is also famous for its fine shops.
