NEBRODIAN RELIGIOUS SITES |
After breakfast, we regain the Nebrodian Mountains into a spectacular dolomitic, lanscape making the first stop at Alcara Li Fusi, a small town leaning against the Rocca del Castro, a magnific dolomitic, calcareous face, red in colour, to see the Church of Santa Maria del Rosario and the Chiesa Madre. According to an old lagend, the hermit San Nicola, the patron saint of the town, lived here at the San Nicola Hermtage eating only the prey brought to him every day by an eagle. |
We
then proceed to Frazzanò, a town founded around the year 835 by a coastline people who fled into
the mountains to escape the Saracens. |
The tour continues, driving slowly
trough towns and villages: Longi, Galati
Mamertino, Tortorici, Castell'Umberto
where we enjoy a typical local lunch. |
The tour ends at
Capo d'Orlando, a
summer holiday resort on the Tyrrhenian coast with its 16th century Sanctuary of Maria
Santissima on the promontory, nearby the 14th century ruined castle. |
